Michigan Child Support Attorney

Whether you are seeking child support or being sued for child support, a child support matter can be a stressful and emotional time for both the parents and child(ren) involved.  In most cases, decisions regarding child custody and visitation are also taken into consideration and ruled on by the court or Friend of the Court.  It can be hard to reach a fair and reasonable resolution without the help of a Michigan Child Support Attorney.

At Macie Law, we pride ourselves on being a compassionate yet aggressive Michigan Child Support lawyer. Contact our office today for a free consultation to discuss your matter in detail.

THERE ARE SEVERAL INSTANCES WHEN A MICHIGAN CHILD SUPPORT ATTORNEY SHOULD BE CONSULTED

DIVORCE

Couples get divorced every day.  When there are minor children shared between the couple, the issues of child custody, visitation, support, and healthcare are part of the divorce negotiations and Judgment.  The court and/or the opposing party’s attorney may attempt to downplay the importance of having your best interests protected.  However, your unique situation should be treated as such.  Not only can most cookie cutter child custody and visitation orders award minimal time for a party that is not represented by an attorney, it can result in a larger monthly child support payment as a payee or receiving less child support if you are the custodial parent.

If you are thinking of filing for a divorce or have been served with a Summons and Complaint for Divorce, contact our office for a free consultation.

PATERNITY

When a child is born of unmarried parents, it is typical that a paternity case is initiated to establish paternity.  A paternity matter can be commenced by either the mother or the presumed father of the child.

A DNA test is ordered to confirm that the presumed father is the biological father of the child.  An order for child custody, visitation, support, and healthcare can then be established.  Historically, fathers who are not represented by a child custody and support attorney are awarded minimal visitation/custody while being ordered to pay the maximum calculated child support.  Therefore, it is important that you contact a Michigan Child Support Attorney to discuss your case.

CHILD SUPPORT REVIEW

In Michigan, either party can request a review for modification of child support every thirty-six (36) months or at such time as a party can prove that their financial situation has changed significantly.  However, before a review can be conducted, the requesting party must file a motion with the court for approval.

When a review for modification occurs, both parties will be asked to submit some of the following information and documents:

  • Recent paycheck stubs or proof of wages.
  • Copies of federal and state income tax returns along with W-2s and 1099s.
  • Copies of business tax returns if the party is self-employed.
  • A Child Care Verification Form is they are asking for reimbursement of child-care expenses.

If you believe that you may have sufficient reason to request a modification for child support, contact our office for a free consultation.
